Office of Commonwealth Attorney Adult Accountability for Safer Community
The Adult Accountability for Safer Community (AASC) program, a 2022 partnership between the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney and NVMS, provides restorative justice conferences for young adults (18-25) facing eligible criminal charges. This program is intended to reduce recidivism by young adult misdemeanor offenders.
Co-Parenting for Successful Children and Families Program
NVMS receives support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Fairfax County Consolidated Community Funding Pool to deliver this two-part program. Residents with an open case with the Division of Child Support Enforcement are referred to the program by Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Court.Private family mediation is also available pro bono for families earning $50,000 or less in family income.
Fairfax County Alternative Accountability Program
The Fairfax County Alternative Accountability Program (AAP), a community initiative, utilizes NVMS to provide restorative conferences for referred juveniles, preventing court records upon successful completion. Data from the Fairfax Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court indicates a 2023 recidivism rate of 8%.
General District Court Mediation
Mediation allows parties to have more control, flexibility, and creativity over resolving their disputes versus a judge deciding the case for them.Court-referred cases come from general district courts in the Counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and the City of Falls Church.
Police-Referred Community Mediation Program
The Police-Referred Mediation Program aims to provide law enforcement officers with a free and effective conflict resolution resource to share with community members in conflict, offering an alternative to traditional enforcement methods and fostering positive interactions.
