“Through collaborative activities, I learned about conflict management styles and how my own conflict management style manifests itself in different areas of my life. I also learned that there are a variety of roles that people can play as mediators during conflicts in their daily lives.” – Mbali, community education training participant.

“It was particularly evident how critical the facilitators’ roles are to the process. They temper emotions, channel attention to the purpose of the listening session, and emphasize the importance of sharing views while maintaining respect. RJ done correctly then is a just, equitable, and fair process that removes the danger of limited voices being heard.” – Beverley Bishop-Cheddie, volunteer.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that yes my life hasn’t been the best and I’ve had to deal with things, but I can use that as an excuse to make bad decisions that are going to affect my life forever or I can use it as an excuse to rise up and become the best version of myself.” -- Restorative Justice conference participant.

“I grew up in a family with lots of tensions and latent conflicts. To understand conflicts is to understand myself. Conflicts are not necessarily a terrible thing, but as a force to drive life events.” – Grace Chau, certified mediator.

Why mediation?
Mediation is a quicker, more affordable, and less stressful way to resolve conflicts. A neutral third party, the mediator, helps facilitate communication and guide both sides toward a mutually agreeable solution. It improves relationships, preserves confidentiality, and often leads to faster resolutions with lower costs compared to court.
NVMS offers conflict management services to individuals and organizations (faith-based, government, businesses). Utilizing universal ADR processes and online tools, NVMS can serve disputants regardless of location. Mediation of court-referred Northern Virginia cases typically take place in person.
Court-referred cases from the general district courts of Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and the City of Falls Church are cost-free to parties. Child support cases in Fairfax County’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court are cost-free to parties. Pro bono services are offered to individual parties whose annual income is $50,000 or less. All other clients pay a fee following a sliding fee scale based on income of individual parties.
Mediation sessions typically last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the issue. Longer sessions can be arranged if needed.
Yes, all mediation sessions are confidential. The mediator cannot disclose any information discussed during the process without the consent of the parties involved.
You can schedule a session by contacting us through our website, calling our office, or sending an email at info@nvms.us. Our team will guide you through the process.
